A Flemish carved oak and ebony veneered cupboard 1st half 17th century

with an overhanging cornice above a frieze carved with male and female masks above a pair of cupboard doors, and a further pair of cupboard doors with raised rectangular bosses, flanked by demi-columns, with a drawer in the apron carved with lion masks on flattened bun feet, with panelled sides, the whole with ripple-cut mouldings

Colour slightly less orange much more attractive than in the photograph with more contrast. There are some hairline vertical cracks in two of the right side panels and one of the left side panels and there are some sections of veneer missing from top left and right cupboard door and there is a large section missing from lower right door on bottom edges and minor sections generally. A further vertical hairline crack running through the keyhole. Old marks and scratches commensurate with age. There are restored vertical hairline cracks in the side panels which have been well restored and there is some shrinkage of the panels generally commensurate with age. There are some slight gaps between the moulding of the apron on both sides where it joins the base. There is a vertical construction crack in the right hand door and both doors have been rebacked. There is also some shrinkage where the raised bosses meet the ripple-mouldings. Old restored crack front right foot. Feet probably replaced. Attractive detail to carving.
