A Napoleon III amboyna and rosewood secrétaire commode circa 1870

the shaped white marble top above four drawers, the frieze secrétaire drawer containing three figured rosewood drawers, a gallery and inset leather writing surface, each drawer below with a sliding mahogany cover, on a plinth base

Colour overall less orange and more natural and attractive than in the catalogue illustration. There is a vertical construction crack down the right side which can easily be filled and some other minor hairline cracks down the left side commensurate with age. The balustraded gallery on the right side of the secrétaire drawer has become detached but can easily be reattached. The internal drawers are calamander and not rosewood as stated in the catalogue. The vertical moulding on the left side of the second drawer is missing but can easily be restored. The sliding cover on the drawer is slightly warped and a little stiff and needs easing. A beautifully executed piece in fine figured veneers and in overall very good condition. Recommended. Marble top: Old very minor marks, chips and scratches, but in overall good condition.
