- 123.5cm. high, 71cm. wide, 40cm. deep; 4ft. ½in., 2ft. 4in., 1ft. 3¾in.
the flap enclosing a fitted fruitwood lined interior of four small drawers, pigeonholes and a leather inset writing surface, with three drawers below each with a dust flap, the hinged stile with a sliding panel concealing a Bramah lock, stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER,
Condition
Excellent general condition and a piece of outstanding quality. The piece has been re-finished. The interior has some ink stains and old marks. There is no key.

Catalogue Note
The firm of Gillow was first established in Lancaster by Robert Gillow (1704-1772), circa 1730. The firm consistently produced furniture of a high quality. From the first quarter of the 19th century, they are known to have followed current fashion, such as the revival of Chippendale's Director style and the French 'Louis' style. They were exhibitors at The Great Exhibition of 1851, enjoying the Royal patronage of Queen Victoria.
