of breakfront form with a white marble top above three frieze drawers and a panelled cupboard worked with a baldacchino and arabesques in the manner of  Jean Bérain and centred by a lyre, flanked by two glazed doors, on bracket feet, with the trade label, EDWARDS AND ROBERTS, WARDOUR ST, 126 PICCADILLY, 532 OXFORD ST, LONDON

A good impressive piece in restored condition with some old repaired splits, the gilt-bronze worn in places, and with some surface marks and scratches, the feet scuffed and the cut brass Boulle work lifting in places on the base. Edwards and Roberts were amoung the foremost English cabinet makers of the second half of the 19th century.  Founded in 1845, the firm rapidly expanded and by 1845 was trading as 'Edwards and Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture'.  The firm produced furniture of modern design, as well as copies of 18th century French pieces.
