Description

  • 197 cm; 122 cm; 57 cm
with a molded top above a pewter inlaid band and repousé-mounted frieze above two similarly inlaid and mounted doors, opening to reveal a fitted interior with three niches above a central architectural cupboard door mounted with allegorical repoussé panels and opening to reveal three drawers, the door flanked by six further drawers above a niche inlaid with mother-of-pearl and fitted with mirror panes, flanked by two small drawers, the whole above a molded pewter-panelled frieze; the lower section with three false drawers opening to reveal a fall front latch and fitted interior with eight drawers flanking a central cupboard door inlaid with fleur-de-lys motifs above three grotesque-relief supports joined by arches on a molded base inlaid with geometrical motifs and similarly decorated back on rectangular feet.

Condition

Minor dents, marks and scratches to the pewter inlay. Minor marks and scratches and age cracks to the ebony panelling around the raised panels on the doors and the sides consistent with age. With vertical age cracks to the side raised panels, age cracks and interior of the doors consistent with age. Interior in good condition, with minor dents and slight lifting in very small areas to the tortoiseshell veneer. There are traces of holes on either ends of the tortoiseshell veneered drawers suggesting previous handle mounts. Small restorations to the tortoiseshell. Minor rubbing and verdigris to the ormolu handles. The pull out secretary section (the interior decorated with an associate and older element) with general surface dirt, horizontal age cracks consistent with age, two side bands flanking the elaborate key mechanism possibly replaced. Small restorations to the marquetry veneer. Further age and construction cracks to the back and base of the lower section consistent with age, with general minor marks, small chips and scratches consistent with age and use. In overall good condition.
