Description

each of low rectangular form, the larger, Japan, early 20th century, with a burlwood rectangular top panel, the long ends of the frame slightly curved, above a recessed waist inlaid with bamboo, the further recessed legs arched outward at the foot, connected by a straight apron with stepped spandrel brackets formed by vertical bamboo reeds, straight stretchers on each side; the smaller hongmu stand, 19th century, with a rectangular panel top, inlaid with painted 'spotted' bamboo on the sides, legs and stepped spandrels, the legs joined by a pair of stretchers (2)

Condition

The large stand in good condition with minor cracks to the burlwood top panel; two oval filled in patches, the largest 1 inch across. Some parts of the panel discolored and filled with wax. In otherwise good condition. The small stand with a thin missing splice on top panel. In otherwise good condition.
