Description

the ovoid body rising from a short spreading flat base to a short waisted neck, the domed cover surmounted by a lotus-bud finial, covered overall with a creamy-white glaze suffused with crackles, 20.5cm., 8 1/8 in; together with a small white-glazed jar, Tang Dynasty

Condition

Jar and cover: The jar is in good condition with some wear to the glaze around the rim. Three firing flaws on the lower register of the body, the longest 2 cm. The shoulder with a 0.5 cm glaze chip. The body with small and minor pinholes. The cover has approximately four small chips to the rim, the largest 1 cm. Pinpricks and iron spots on the finial. The jar: The glaze is dry and brittle, and is worn on much of the mid-lower sections of the body. 1 cm scratch to the glaze on the body. Kiln grit on 2/3 of the mouth rim. Firing flaws at the two handles.
