Description

the body of globular form rising from a short spreading foot, the shoulder set with a short strap handle to one side and a short tubular spout to the other, the slightly domed circular cover surmounted by a leaf-shaped knop, covered overall in a creamy-white glaze, 8cm., 3 1/8 in; together with a miniature white-glazed bottle vase and a circular white-glazed water pot

Condition

The ewer: In fine condition with restoration to a small area of the spout. The cover with small areas of retouching and restoration on old, small chips on the rim areas. UV light showed fluorescence around parts of the knop, small sections below and above the rim. A label affixed to the bottom of the ewer reads, 'Song [Chinese character], NATIONALMUSEUM 1949, 31', most likely in reference to an exhibition at the Nationalmuseum in Oslo, Norway. The vase: In good overall condition with small iron spots on the mouth. Bumpiness to parts of the foot rim original to the firing. Very shallow chip to the bottom of the mouth rim. The water pot: In good overall condition.
