Description
of circular form, the top deeply carved through the red, green and yellow layers with a key-fret medallion enclosing scholars and their young attendants in a garden, the rounded sides of the box and cover with quatrefoil panels enclosing similar scenes, divided by ruyi florets and reserved on a dense floret diaper ground, the interior and base lacquered black
Condition
There is a 17cm area to the rim of the cover that is damaged, which extends 2.5cm vertically into the interior in one part. Part of this is also being held together with tape. There is also areas of flaking lacquer to the rim. There is an 11cm area and another 2cm area of damage to the rim of the base, and other areas of lacquer flaking to the rim.
