Description
the rectangular body with rounded sides rising from four lion paw legs issuing from lion masks to a short straight neck with everted rim, finely cast in medium relief around the exterior with a broad band of scaly writhing dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls, all amidst cloud and fire scrolls and above rocks and tumultuous foaming waves, divided at either end by a pair of chilong handles, the domed pierced cover similarly decorated and surmounted by a large recumbent snarling lion, the metal patinated to a rich toffee tone, the base cast with a six-character Xuande mark in a recessed rectangle, carved and pierced wood stand
Condition
This impressive and very finely cast censer and cover are in excellent overall condition with the exception of very minor nicks to the extremities and tiny casting flaws; and very light areas of rubbing to the patination on some raised areas and to the edges of the rim of the body and cover.
