Description
the body of cylindrical form rising from a short straight foot to a waisted neck, finely painted around the exterior with a large scaly five-clawed dragon and a phoenix in flight, all amidst cloud scrolls and within lotus-lappet and keyfret bands, the neck with stiff leaf and keyfret bands

This large and impressive vase has two hairline rim cracks (3 and 4.5cm., long, one extending into a two-pointed glaze line), a repaired V-shaped 10cm. wide six-part break to the rim, a 19cm., long hairline body crack and light glaze scratches. It should be noted that the cobalt-blue is of a far stronger tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
