Description

carved seated on a separate throne, with hands held together in anjalimudra and wearing a long robe falling in U-shaped elegant folds around the arms and legs, the face with high arched brows over bow-string eyes a strong broad nose and bud mouth, the hair piled into a high chignon held in place with a tiara

Condition

This large gilt lacquer wood figure is in stable condition but does have some damage to the area of the edge of the robe to the left side of the left knee, 7cm x 3.5cm, with a 14cm long associated crack. There is also an area of repair 8cm x 3cm to the edge of the robe to the right of the right knee with associated cracks. There is a 1.5cm x 1cm chip below the right knee. There is a 2.5cm x 2cm area of damage to the lacquer at the base between the feet. There are wide areas of cracking to the lacquer to the shoulders, back, arms, legs and areas of the robe. There is damage to the neck and hair tassels which points to the fact that the head has been damaged and repaired (off the body). There is also gilt loss to the crown, back, tassels, hands and feet.
