Description

cast seated in dhyanasana, the left hand holding a patra, the right a stem of a lotus, wearing long flowing robes incised with a floral border and open at the chest to reveal an elaborate beaded necklace, the broad face with high arched brows over bow-string-shaped eyes, a broad nose and bud-like mouth, the hair drawn up into a chignon secured behind a tiara centred with Amitabha Buddha and with knotted tresses falling down and around the shoulders, all supported on a seperately cast lotus throne issuing two blooms on one of which stands an acolyte, further raised on a column rising from a hexagonal galleried lotus pond base, traces of gilt  

Condition

A triangular bit of the lotus stem column broken out and missing (ca. 2x1.5cm). Part of the foot rim broken off and missing (ca. 2.5cm). The leaves of the lotus throne with traces of red and green pigment. Two smal casting holes (ca. 1cm) above lotus leaves on the left and right hand side of the front of the lotus throne (visible in the illustration). One acolyte figure missing. Two casting cracks (ca. 13 and 4cm) to the back of the figure. One tip of the crown missing.
