Description
the circular disc powerfully carved in high relief to the front face with two adult and three young qilong, the reverse with a matrix of raised spirals, the stone of celadon and brown tone
Condition
The jade disc is in overall very good condition. The colour of the jade is of a slightly darker, more yellowish tone than the illustration suggests.

A closely related bi carved with three qilong was included in the exhibition A Romance with Jade from the De An Tang Collection, Palace Museum, Beijing, 2004, cat. no. 133; another with a total of nine qilong carved on the front and the back was included in the exhibition Tianjin shi yishu bowuguan cang yu, Tianjin City Art Museum, 1990, cat. no. 221; and a third bi with seven qilong is illustrated in Chinese Jades in the Avery Brundage Collection, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, 1977, pl. XXXIX.
