Description
the body of pear shape rising from a short spreading foot to a tall waisted neck and flaring rim, freely painted in inky-blue tones around the exterior with a large scaly dragon in pursuit of a flaming pearl, all between classic scroll, cash-diaper and lotus-lappet bands
Provenance
Sotheby's London, 11th December 1984, lot 317
Condition
The vase has restoration and overpainting covering a circa 6x3cm., wide crescent-shaped section of the rim, restoration to a chip/hole at the lower body and associated overpainting to two of the laotus-lappets, restoration and overpainting encircling the central section of the body above the luting line. It should be noted that the cobalt-blue is of a stronger tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
