Description

the cover finely and deeply carved with a shou-character and lotus-lappet medallion enclosing a lakeside pavilion surrounded by mountains amidst swirling mist, encircled by four large flower-filled panels divided by the bajixiang and reserved on a dense floret-diaper ground, the box similarly carved, the interior lacquered black

Condition

This large and finely carved box and cover is in good overall condition with the exception of: the cover has minor loss to the tips of the pagoda roof, restoration to the top section of the scholars staff, old restoration to cracking at the rim and related age cracks extending 7cm., into the interior, minor nibbles and flaking at the rim; the box has flakes (0.5, 1, 2, 3 and 5cm. wide) to the inside edge of the rim and old restoration and overpainting to the rim, including a circa 19cm., wide shallow crescent-shaped break at the rim, and minor old chips and flakes at the footring.
