Description

the horn of rich dark toffee tone, well carved around the exterior with a broad taotie band between bands of stiff blades at the high spreading foot and widely flaring rim, carved in high relief to one side with two sinuous qilong clambering up and over the rim forming the handle

Condition

This well carved cup is in good overall condition with the exception of a 4cm., wide crescent-shaped restored break to the lip and another possible area of restoration to the tip of the rim, minor age lines running through the central section and a filled shallow chip to the side of the foot. It should be noted that the tone of the horn is slightly darker than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
