Herber Reginald Bishop (1840-1902) was a New York aristocrat and the most renowned American collector of Asian jade during his time. Much of his collection is now in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

This important catalogue is one of 100 limited editions. It was edited by the prominent gemologist George F. Kunz (1856-1932) and includes contributions by Stephen W. Bushnell, Robert Lilley and Tadamasa Hayashi. Two sets were given to The Library of Congress to secure copyright, while the remaining editions were given to friends, libraries, museums and European sovereigns. Upon publication the type was distributed and the plates used for printing the illustrations were destroyed.
