Description

intricately carved in high-relief with a long sinuous scaly five-clawed dragon amidst rolling clouds and above crashing waves entwined around the shaft, the beast stretched forward gazing intensely towards the head of the ruyi carved with a 'flaming pearl', the stone of translucent greyish-white with small areas of russet and ivory coloured inclusions, box and stand

Condition

The left whisker of the dragon curled has been restored. Otherwise, the sceptre is overall in fine condition with a few minute nicks to the sharp edges of the carving as expected for a piece of its age and type. The colour of the jade is slightly more celadon-grey than as illustrated in the catalogue.
