the deep rounded sides resting on a short foot and rising to an everted rim, brightly decorated around the sides in iron-red enamels with luxuriant, full blooming hibiscus and lotus flowers borne on a stylised leaf scroll, the interior and base glazed white, the base inscribed with the six-character seal mark in underglaze-blue

A Daoguang bowl of this design, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, is illustrated in Suzanne Valenstein, A Handbook of Chinese Ceramics, New York, 1989, pl. 282; another from the Simon Kwan collection was included in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Art Gallery.
