the deep rounded sides painted on the exterior with four medallions, each encircling one of the characters forming the auspicious phrase wan shou wu jian ('long life without ending'), reserved on a ground of lotus scrolls and the bajixiang ('Eight Buddhist Emblems'), all set between a band of scrolls around the rim and petal lappets skirting the foot, the interior decorated with the bajixiang encircling a shou medallion
