of rectangular form, the base of the interior finely inlaid with a scene of scholars approaching a pavilion and being greeted by a figure seated in a curtained chamber, all below the moon and a lofty pine, reserved on a floral diaper ground and enclosed on the cavetto with detached floral scrolls further reserved on a hexagonal diaper ground

Formerly in a Japanese Collection. 

The mother-of-pearl inlay remains in good overall condition. There are expected small chips to the corners of the tray, the largest on the bottom RHC 2 cm long. The top surface, particularly along the corners of the interior, appears a little dull in some areas, likely the result of old restoration to control shrinkage of the lacquer. The bottom has expected shrinkage and is possibly later, but not recently, relacquered. In fair condition.
