A PAIR OF CINNABAR LACQUER JARDINIERES QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

each of deep rounded form resting on four ruyi-shaped feet and rising to a scalloped rim, well carved around the sides in deep layers of varying relief with four panels each enclosing different scenes of deer and cranes in an outdoor setting, all against a ground of scrolling lotus blooms, the rim carved with a further floral scroll, the interior and base lacquered black  

Condition

Both jardinieres have characteristic age cracks. The interior of each has a patch of flaked lacquer (on one 6cm x 1cm and the other 4 cm x 3 cm) that has been painted black, but has not been relacquered. There are chips along the foot that have been retouched. One has a 4 cm crack to the lacquer on the base and the other has a minor crack to the black lacquer around the foot that has been stabilized. The carved surface is in very good condition as is the overall condition.
