Catalogue Note
Finding land for a friend. Boone writes to his friend and business partner, Thomas Hart, regarding a plot of land he has located for Hart in the same area Boone himself settled in 1786. He describes the plot of land, near Limestone, Kentucky, succinctly: " I shall only ad [sic] that the Land I Located for you is good except about 3 or 4 hundered [sic] acres in the SE Corner . . . the Land Lyes about 15 miles from the Mouth of Limestone and if you or Col. Rochester should come down the river next Spring I hope to be leving [living] at that place and rady [ready] to show you your Land . . . ." He confirms that their mutual friend and fellow business partner, Colonel Nathaniel Rochester (after whom Rochester, New York, was named), has paid all Boone's expenses relating to the property to his satisfaction.
