Catalogue Note

Copy 274 of 595 copies on Auvergne (of a whole edition of 645). Inscribed and with two portrait drawings of the recipients on the front free endpaper.  The drawings are a female portrait head and a male bust-length portrait of a man in jacket and tie, smoking.  Calder has signed the drawing "from Sandy, Nov. 9, /44"

Inscribed by Calder on the front free endpaper, "With much love to Peter & Ebie Blume [with the "B" extended into a drawing of a flower] from Sandy, (in a slightly punctured condition).  Xmas 1950."  Also inscribed by Robert Penn Warren and Malcolm Cowley (the dedicatee of the book) on 24 April 1985.
