Printed broadside document signed ("Th: Jefferson") on a full sheet of laid paper (16 x 20 in.; 406 x 508 mm; watermarked posthorn | Budcen 1804), accomplished in a clerical hand, [Washington], before 27 July 1803, being a four-language ship's paper for the Boston, a schooner of 75 tons commanded by John Marshall of Nantucket and bound for Bonavesta, Newfoundland, laden with "Rum, Flour, & Ballast," countersigned by the Secretary of State ("James Madison") and the Nantucket Collector ("Stephen Husey"), embossed paper seal of the United States, paper seal and signature of Nantucket Justice of the Peace Josiah Barker; very minor soiling at edges, three small abrasions, pinholes at intersecting folds, later pencil endorsement on verso.
