Description

  • A vase
  • underside with partially obscured intaglio mark ` .....Gallé'
  • 17.2cm. high;
  • 6¾in.
carved cameo glass, opalescent green glass body overlaid in cornelian and carved with a flowering lily with a single bud, on gilt bronze foot

Literature

A comparable example illustrated, Alastair Duncan and Georges de Bartha, Glass by Gallé, London, 1984, p. 60, fig. 66

Condition

There are some internal and external bubbles and seeds. The joint between the bronze foot and the vase is slightly crude, and partially obscures the mark. The mount has not been removed and so the condition of the glass beneath has not been inspected. The red is not as vibrant as the illustration suggests. A well coloured and attractive piece.
