  • A polychrome enamel plaque with Christ before Pilate
  • French, Limoges, late 16th century
initialled indistinctly in gilt letters MR, in later gilt and velvet mounted frame

Condition

The overall condition is good consistent with age. There is some wear to the gilding and some very minor light surface scratching. There are very few minor imperfections due to manufacturing. The reverse with minor losses to the enamel, especially to the rims.

Catalogue Note

Beyssi-Cassan records Martial Reymond, the enameller rather than the goldsmith of the same name, as being active in Limoges at the end of the sixteenth century until his death in 1609.
