Description

  • a polychrome and giltwood relief of Christ's Charge to Peter
intricately carved in low and high relief, the brocade robes in estofado technique

Condition

This relief is in stable, good condition. It is conceived of a series of wood panls which are supported on the reverse by a modern support. There is general wear, rubbing and minor chips, and losses to the edges. There is a crack extending vertically through the tree and another through the left hand of the figure. There is a loss to one figure's hand (see catalogue photo). The paint appears to be old, however, areas of underdrawing evident. If a more detailed report on the paint is required, we recommend consulting a painting conservator.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
