Catalogue Note
With the cross-fertilisation of artistic influences between the Netherlands and Spain in the second half of the fifteenth century, Spanish devotional imagery became far more pictorial. In the present tender group of the Mother and Child, the realistic rendition of the drapery with soft folds which fall from her lap to around her feet and the realistic depiction of the Child, this is very apparent. For a stylistically comparable interpretation note the Adoration group in Covarubbias collegiate church illustrated by Müller.
