Catalogue Note

Painted in 1987.

In 1964 Valdés, Rafael Solbes and Juan Antonio Toledo collaborated to form Equipo Crónica, an artistic team that used Pop Art to comment broadly on the social, political and cultural currents of the time. After the group dissolved in 1981, Valdés forged his own path, further analysing the potential of a new language by placing the imagery of Baroque masterpieces such as a Selfportrait by Rembrandt in a contemporary context.
