Condition
The canvas has been re-lined. There are scattered flecks of retouching visible under ultraviolet light, notably near the lower edge and to the upper left corner. Apart from scattered craquelure and some light surface dirt, this work is in good condition, with bright, rich colours, and ready to hang. Held in a simple, narrow, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.

Catalogue Note
Painted circa 1910, the present work is an oil study for the ceiling of the ballroom of the palacio of the Marquis of Alella; in the Rambla of the Canaletas, Barcelona. The project was titled La danza del amor and represented a series of odes to Life and Love.
Commissioned by Fernando Fabra, the second Marquis; when the family moved in 1923 to a larger residence in the Calle Muntaner they had the new ballroom built to fit Sert's canvases.
