Catalogue Note

Painted in the 1930s, L'Arribada del Peix marked a turning point in Mir's life, following his move to the Catalan fishing port of Vilanova. After his marriage to Maria Estalella Asbert, a native Vilanovan, the couple settled there permanently in 1922. Living on Sant Josep Street, Mir found the peace of mind that had escaped him in so many of his other domiciles. The now well-established artist in the prime of his life and career acted as host to various artists and musicians who came to his villa. This combination of activity and tranquillity made his artistic output more consistent and fluid, and his new life and observations of the activities in the port town were of frequent inspiration to Mir.
