Catalogue Note

Point was born in Algeria, but moved to Paris in 1888. He was influenced by Ruskin, the Pre-Raphaelites and the Arts and Craft Movement, and took inspiration from the works of Leonardo and Boticello – both technically and iconographically. In 1896 he founded a group called 'Hauteclaire', which produced under his direction a large number of ornamental objects.  Point was an important contributor to Sâr Péladan's Salon de la Rose+Croix, where he exhibited from 1892-1896.
