The catalogue illustration is representative for the actual painting, although the whites are slightly less bright than the illustration suggests. The canvas has a rather firm relining, which has somewhat flattened the paint surface. Stretcher marks are visible along the upper and right edges. A canvas seem can be seen running horizontally about 20 cm. above the lower edge. There's some minor flaking along the seem and a tiny spot of paint loss in the lower centre. The paint surface is slightly abraded in the darker tones and a very thin vertical surface scratch is visible in the lower right corner. Otherwise, no major damages seem to be apparent. A few small spots of retouching can be observed in the upper right corner, along the seem, and right of the left fox. The paint surface is covered with a dirty layer of varnish. Inspection under ultra violet light is largely impeded by the dirty varnish layer, but does confirm the aforementioned retouchings. There's probably some minor retouching in the foliage and grass to the right as well. Offered in a plain gold painted wood frame with a few paint losses. (MW)
