Condition

The actual painting is darker in tone and the high lights are less bright than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is relined and the paint surface is a bit thin in the upper right, but overall the painting is in good condition, the two main spaniels are well preserved. No damages are visible to the naked eye. Some discoloured retouchings are visible in the sky and in the centre around the dog.. The paint layer is under a dense craquelure pattern and the varnish is dirty and discoloured. Inspection under UV-light is largely impeded by the varnish layer, but confirms abovementioned retouchings. The varnish is unevenly cleaned. Offered in a gilt wood frame with small damages and a few chips. (JD)
