Description

  • a triptych, the central panel: Christ on the cross;left wing: Christ carrying the cross;right wing: the entombment

  • centre: 71 by 47.5 cm., wings: 71 by 20 cm., overall (wings open including the frame): 71 by 110 cm.

Condition

The actual painting is slightly warmer in tone and the colours are less bright. The centre panel consists of two vertical planks, the vertical join is visible to the front, slightly warped. Outer wings also consists of two vertical planks, joins visible. Some pinpoint paint losses are visible throughout. Otherwise the paint layer is in good condition and under a transparent varnish layer. Discoloured retouchings are visible with the naked eye. Especially in the faces of the main figures. Inspection under UV confirms abovementioned retouchings and reveals additional minor ones in the drapery of the figures, and especially in the sky and in the figure group of Jesus Christ in the right wing. Offered in the frame as illustrated in the catalogue, in good condition. (JD)
