Description
- A portrait of a lady, seated half-length, wearing a black dress with a white collar
- oil on canvas
- 79.5 by 66.5 cm.
Condition
The actual painting is less green and warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is relined (wax). No major damages seem to be apparent and the painting seems to be in good condition. Tiny discoloured retouchings can be seen throughout, e.g. in the face, hands and in the background. The paint surface is covered with a rather thick varnish layer, and shows a craquelure pattern that varies in places. Inspection under UV light reveals fluoresces partly due to the varnish layer, but does reveal the retouchigns as mentioned above. Offered in a carved and giltwood frame, in fair condition. (ML)
