Condition
The actual painting is slightly warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of 3 planks joined vertically, and reinforced on the reverse with linnen strips. The panel is bevelled on all sides, and very lightly bowed. The joins are clearly visible to the front and have been retouched. The paint surface is slightly abraded in the hair, but otherwise, in very good condition. No damages are visible. A few tiny discoloured retouchings can be observed in the face. The paint surface is under a very thick and glossy layer of varnish. Inspection under ultra vilet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings and reveals a few additional tiny retouchings in the face and collar. Offered in a decorative carved and gilt wood frame in good condition. (MW)
