Catalogue Note
The battle of Chaironeia (August 338) was the greatest victory of king Philip II of Macedonia, a battle against the combined forces of Athens and Thebes. Athens lost forever her centuries lasting hegemony in Greece. According to the Ancient sources, Alexander the Great, son of Philip, and his companions were the first to break through the Theban lines and thus secured the later victory.
