Description

  • 16cm. high, 15cm. diameter.
finely cast, chiselled and patinated, the base profiled and with palmette frieze, inscribed Ich Frau Regina Pernogerin Gher, with dolphin ears

Condition

In overall good condition with some minor dents, marks and scratches due to age and use. One larger dent to the upper rim. The lower rim with one minor restoration, hardly visible due to elaborate detail. Minor warping to one of the dolphin tails. Minor wear and traces of greening to the inside.

Catalogue Note

According to an accompanying document, the present mortar was attributed by Dr. Leo Planiscig to Alexander Endorffer the Younger, recorded in Innsbruck, Tyrol, since 1527, died 1541, member of the famous family of bronze workers originating from Augsburg.
