Catalogue Note

This very rare nail is a fine testimony of the widespread pilgrimage cult which had its peak in the 12th and 13th century. The claim to have one of the nails with which the Lord was crucified in its church treasure, one of the most prestigious and holiest possible relics believed to be existing, of course attracted great masses of worshippers and pilgrims, thus guaranteeing great income and wealth.
