  • 140.2 by 96.7 cm.

Condition

The actual painting is softer and less yellow in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas is unlined. The paint surface is slightly abraded in places, and there's a very small damage in the centre, but otherwise, in good condition. There are e few tiny paint losses along the lower edge. Retouched paint losses can be observed throughout, e.g. in the saint's cloak, in the figure of Christ, along the edges. The paint surface is covered with a very dirty layer of varnish, and there's some surface dirt. Inspection under ultra violet confirms the aforementioned retouchings and reveals additional retouchings throughout, e.g. in the putti on the right, in the saint's face and in the sky. Offered in a gilt wood frame with moulded borders and fillet. (MW)
