Description
- The relic of the Miraculous Sacrament of Brussels
- oil on panel, remains of the Antwerp panel maker's mark on the reverse
- 61 by 47.9 cm.
Condition
The actual painting is slightly darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The panel consists of two vertical planks bevelled along the upper and right edge. The join is reinforced by three battons, the join is visible to the front.
Paint losses are visible along the upper part of the join and in the lower right, some have been filled and retouched. Discoloured retouchings are visible in the dark background and in the lower left. The paint layer is under a dirty and old varnish layer, which is unevenly cleaned.
Inspection under UV-light confirms abovementioned retouchings and reveals additional ones in the drapery upper left.
Offered in a gilt wood ornate frame, in good condition. (JD)
