Description
- Saint Anthony of Padua's miracle of the host
- oil on panel
- 78.8 by 63 cm.
Condition
The actual painting is warmer and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of 4 planks, joined vertically, and is bevelled on the lower and right edges. The panel has been reenforced with 3 vertical strips of wood. The joins are visible to the front and there are a few minor paint losses visible along the central and right joins. Retouchings can be observed along the joins, in the draperies of the monk and other figures on the left, and in the upper and lower background. The paint surface is covered with a thick and glossy layer of varnish. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms the aforesaid retouchings and reveals no further retouchings.
Offered in a plain black wood frame, with a gilt moulded fillet, a few losses. (MW)
