Catalogue Note
The volume includes the bookplate of David Garrick and a note from a former owner stating "This book was purchased April 30th 1823, at the sale of the library belonging to the late David Garrick Esq sold by Mr Saunders in Fleet Street. George Moore".
David Garrick accumulated a fine collection of books and pictures at 27 Southampton Street, which was his and his wife's city home for 23 years from October 1749. "His purchases of play-texts served both to enhance Drury Lane's repertory and to satisfy his bibliomania" (Oxford DNB). The chief portion of his dramatic library was eventually bequeathed to the British Musuem.
