8vo, 4 volumes, engraved frontispiece portrait of Ariosto in volume 1, 46 engraved plates, one at the start of each canto, with all the 55 cancels listed by Gaskell (present in only some copies), late eighteenth-century dark green straight-grained morocco gilt, the covers with double roll-tooled border, spines richly gilt in compartments, gilt dentelles and edges, marbled endpapers, some spotting and browning, occasionally affecting plates
