Catalogue Note
This letter to Millie Warne is not included in the selection published by Judy Taylor in Beatrix Potter's Letters (London, 1989).
Margaret Lane notes in her biography of Potter (The Magic Years of Beatrix Potter, London, 1978) the closeness between Potter and Millie Warne after the death of Norman Warne and states that "only to Millie Warne, to whom she had become very close... was she able to indicate a little of what... [the] loss had meant." This was effectively portrayed in the 2006 film Miss Potter.
