Catalogue Note
A similar pencil drawing in the V&A collection (V&A353) shows two rabbits nibbling a turnip, watched by a sparrow. This is reproduced within the Linders' The Art of Beatrix Potter (London, 1972), p.160 and Taylor, That Naughty Rabbit (London, 2002), p.23.
The drawing offered here shows the outline of the sparrow only. However, it is not merely an unfinished version, for one of the rabbits is in a slightly different position.
