a wartime silverprint by Walter Stoneman, half length, showing the Prime Minister standing by his desk (150 x 105mm.), mounted, signed on the mount ("WSChurchill"), photographer's stamp on reverse of mount, silvered



[together with:] typed letter signed by C.R. Thompson, to Wing Commander Jeffs, sending the photograph on behalf of the Prime Minister "as a small souvenir of the "Maiden Voyage"", 1 page, 8vo, headed stationery of 10 Downing St., 21 July 1943, the two items framed and glazed together (frame size 315 x 380mm.)

Charles Ralfe ("Tommy") Thompson was personal assistant to Churchill as Minister of Defence. Jeffs's "Maiden Voyage", which prompted this personal gift from Churchill, has not been identified.
